In November, the Pentagon’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee voted to include Plan B, a two-pill emergency contraceptive, and the generic Next Choice on the basic core formulary, a list of drugs all military facilities must stock. The Pentagon accepted the recommendation in February.

The military frames the decision as purely pragmatic, meant to standardize the stock available at hospitals across the globe. The Pentagon had made Plan B available to military women in 1999, when the Food and Drug Administration approved it as a prescription drug, but had not required that all hospitals stock the product.


“This move is ... consistent with the military health system goal to ensure that our beneficiaries have access to the appropriate medications for their health care needs, irrespective of location,” said Cynthia Smith, a Department of Defense spokeswoman.

Gulf War US House hearing 2010

If the VA home page says the following:

VA and Open Government
Government should be transparent, allow for citizen participation, and encourage collaboration among organizations. And that’s what VA aims to accomplish through the new Open Government Initiative.

Then why is the next hearing on a Gulf War Veteran issue being kept under the radar, will not be publishized until 48 hours before the meeting -- too late for the average statkeholder/veteran or NSO to give input/comments.

Chemical Agent Threat During Desert Storm

A GAO report found that not all units were in full compliance for protective clothing, possibly because of false alarms. It is possible that if chemical agents were released, the less-than-full-compliance may have allowed soldiers to be exposed to agent.

It appears as if the scientific question of whether Gulf War syndrome was caused by exposure to lethal chemical warfare agents or to some other causative agent such as infectious diseases or exposure to depleted uranium, is still open. Nevertheless, it can be said that had the chemical countermeasures been more effective, there would probably be less controversy surrounding the issue of chemical agent exposure.

There can be no more excuses for not passing full Concurrent Receipt

of Military Retired Pay!"

What I'm referring to is a law that since 2004 allows military

retirees with 20 or more years of service and a Veterans Affairs

rated disability of 50% or higher to receive their VA Disability

Compensation and their retired pay without any offsetting

deductions. Prior to that 2004 law all military retirees had their

military retired pay reduced by any amount of disability

compensation they received.

What the we has been fighting for is for any

disabled military retiree, regardless of the percentage of

disability awarded should be treated in the same manner as those in the 50% to 100% disability range.
